The North Port CHAT is part of a network of Community Health Action Teams in Sarasota County started by the Community Health Improvement Partnership (CHIP). The North Port CHAT has been active in our community since 2002. Through the work of our members, we have helped bring additional health care and transportation services to our community, promoted youth activities and efforts to reduce substance abuse, as well as increased opportunities for all community members - young and older - to add their voice and ideas as we strive to build a strong, healthy, connected community. There is no membership fee, no membership process. Anyone can come to a CHAT meeting and participate to the degree they choose.
Health Services Committee - This committee has had a strong focus on advocating for a strong, integrated health system in North Port with a strong foundation of providers. It also helps to support the efforts to build and enhance our community’s health and wellness and provides opportunities for community members to become better informed and educated in how to improve their own personal health and wellness.
NP-ASAP - North Port Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention - This workgroup is implementing concrete strategies to reduce substance abuse among our youth and adults. The group is working on becoming a federally recognized “Drug Free Community Coalition” and is supporting a Youth-Driven initiative to reinforce the commitment to be alcohol, tobacco and drug-free - North Port Drug-Free Youth (NP D-Fy).
